My goal as a teacher-scholar is to show students the world of earth science so that they can understand the complexity of the natural world. I push students to understand the depth of the material and make connections between their science courses and their other courses on campus. Assignments in my courses are often setup so that you must come to me with questions so that I can get to know students and push them to improve their work.
I teach courses within my specialty including Soil Science and Surface Geology and Landforms (Geomorphology). I also teaching more introductory courses in order to introduce students to the basics of earth science. These classes include Physical Geography of the North Carolina and Environmental Geology. I also teach courses intended for Environmental Studies majors including Environmental Science, the senior capstone, and our senior interdisciplinary seminar.
I believe strongly in experiential and field-based learning. Soil Science and Geomorphology are taught as seminar style classes to maximize the amount of time that we spent outside.
