About Me
I am a geologist and Professor of Environmental Studies at Davidson College. I am interested in how landscapes have evolved after the last glacial period (~20,000 years ago) including how humans have impacted landscapes. My students and I have approached this theme broadly and have completed research on a large variety of landforms including dune , landslides, fluvial terraces, modern channels, and gully formation. We often use soil geomorphic techniques to approach these subjects. I consistently teach courses in my specialty including Surface Geology and Landforms and Soil Science. I also regularly teach Environmental Geology, Environmental Science, and the Environmental Studies Capstone Sequence.
I am also happy to take media requests and, in the aftermath of Helene, worked with reporters from The New York Times, The Washington Post, Politico, The Wall Street Journal, weather.com, and local news on well-informed stories. Feel free to reach out for an interview.
Feel free to reach out of if you have any questions about my courses or my research. I especially encourage students to reach out if you have an interest in working in my lab.
